At Home in the Breath…

Chant, Movement and Contemplative Prayer with the Aramaic Jesus

Neil Douglas-Klotz

The medieval German mystic Meister Eckhart once said, “God is at home. It is we who have gone out for a walk.” During challenging times, we can take a journey of the breath with another mystic who faced times of uncertainty, when the power of wealth and privilege threatened to overwhelm the ancient ethics of justice and compassion. We will take this journey through the Beatitudes of Jesus in Aramaic, through chant, simple circle movement and contemplative prayer. In Jesus’ native language, the first word of each saying, the word usually translated “blessed,” really means “ripe—at the right time and place.” When we find our homes in the breath, individually and collectively, then we will know clearly how to act from our deepest place and follow heart in whatever we do. We will dive into the ripeness of the present moment, following one of the most profound aspects of Jesus’ teaching.

Time: Friday dinner through Sunday lunch.
